Business Programs & Engineering Technologies Advising
As the college continues to service students remotely, students can connect with program advisors in several different formats. Our live Chat feature at the bottom righthand corner can be used for quick questions throughout the semester. We have our Chat open Monday – Friday from 12pm – 2pm. Students can also email an advisor by using the email link listed under their program area below. Students can still schedule a phone appointment via Starfish tab in your program area. Some advisors do have the ability for a virtual advising appointment, which will be indicated as a virtual option via Starfish.
To email your advisor:
- Go to your program area in the tabs below, and then click on "Email Advisors” hyperlink which will take you to an email form.
- Be sure to fill out the email form with lots of details: your Cougar ID number, your CSCC major, SAP appeal assistance, academic probation/dismissal assistance, whether you would like to attend part time of full time in Spring 2021, and any other specific questions you might have.
- Please allow 24 hours for an advisor to respond.

To be eligible for Apprenticeship positions, students must complete a brief series of eligibility requirements that include technical courses related to their chosen career pathway. Full-time students can complete these requirements in two semesters or less. Once eligibility requirements have been met, students are able to apply for acceptance into the IT Flexible Apprenticeship where they will be eligible to participate in interviews facilitated by Columbus State for positions with industry employers.

Our job as Academic Advisors is to guide you on your educational journey and to help prepare you with as much information as possible to ensure your success. Here are some helpful tips that can assist you during your time at Columbus State.
- Come prepared to academic advising meetings. Keep an Advising Folder with all of your advising materials, including a copy of your Semester Plan, a copy of your Plan of Study, a copy of your Degree Audit (DARS), and any questions you may have. Meet with your advisor 1-2 times a year to develop and update your academic plan.
- Connect with the Program Coordinator or Lead Faculty in your Department. They can educate you on job market trends, course content details, technology questions, and more.
- Register early for your classes, using the Course Schedule. Some classes in our programs often have few sections, and can fill within the first week of registration opening. Be aware of the dates that registration opens each semester using Columbus State's Academic Calendar.
- Understand your program options and select a major early on. Be familiar with your course requirements and use your Plan of Study and Degree Audit (DARS) to guide you in course selection.
- Learn how to read and interpret your Degree Audit (DARS). Consult the online Degree Audit (DARS) User Guide and work with your Academic Advisor.
- Create a Semester Plan and bring it to every advising meeting and update it each semester.
- Understand course prerequisites when planning out your courses. The Course Descriptions explain all required prerequisites.
- Take advantage of resources available on campus to help you succeed: Tutoring, Disability Services, Military & Veterans Services, and Student Success Workshops.
- Understand your Financial Aid package and your requirements to maintain satisfactory standing with aid. If Financial Aid has been suspended, and you need to submit a SAP Appeal, be sure you understand the reason you've been suspended, eligibility requirements, and how to file an appeal. Student Central or the Telephone Information Center staff can answer any Financial Aid questions. Your academic advisor can help you with the Academic Plan that is included in your SAP Appeal.
- Prepare for transferring, if that is part of your academic plan. Visit the Transfer Center to speak to our partner colleges and explore the Transfer Agreements for your major.
- Learn more about Internship or Capstone requirements for graduation. If your program requires Practicum/Seminar courses, then it requires an internship. Visit the Internships page to learn about the requirements, find helpful tips, view internship postings, and contact the Internship Coordinator for your program. If your program requires a Capstone course, contact your academic department for registration.
- Prepare for your career in your technical field. Utilize Career Services for resume review, interview coaching, job search strategies, and more. Join professional organizations in your field. Attend organized events and meet-ups with other professionals in your field. Join LinkedIn and update your profile and resume.
- Know how to complete your Graduation Application. Prior to your final semester, it's helpful to review your Degree Audit (DARS) with an academic advisor to ensure that all requirements are on track for completion. Then, complete the online graduation application in the Student Self-Service menu on Cougar Web. Celebrate your hard work and success at the Graduation Ceremony!
