Through the College Credit Plus (CCP) Program, students in grades 7-12 can take college courses through Columbus State Community College to earn free college credit and fulfill their high school graduation requirements at the same time. College courses not only give students the advantage of learning how to meet a college-level standard of academic rigor, they also help offset the cost and time it takes to earn a college degree. By taking college classes, earning an associate degree at Columbus State, and then transferring to complete a bachelor’s degree, students reap all the benefits of the traditional college path, and save tens of thousands of dollars – graduating with little to no student debt.
Columbus State is Ohio’s largest provider of college courses for the College Credit Plus program, serving a diverse range of students through our partnerships with more than 130 different schools in Ohio. And because of the unique challenges our school districts are facing this fall, we’ve opened our full catalog of courses to create more learning options for students. CCP Success Stories
Taaliyah Palmer will spend the 2020-21 school year as a student at Columbus State and Beechcroft High School. Palmer initially took two College Credit Plus course during Autumn Semester 2019 as part of the Junior Jump Start program with Columbus City Schools. As a straight-A student, I was looking for a challenge,” she says.
“Upon high school graduation in 2021, Palmer may have enough credits to transfer to a university as a rising junior and no college debt. “I knew there would be cost savings my family by taking tuition-free College Credit Plus classes in high school.”
Abel Kifle Andebrhan
Abel Kifle Andebrhan began taking Columbus State classes his freshman year through CCP. Over four years, he earned enough credits to receive his degree while still in high school at Pickerington North High School.
Andebrhan is a first-generation college graduate. His family arrived in the United States from Eritrea in 1998. “My dad often talked about how important it was to get a head start on college. The College Credit Program allowed me to do just that."
