Transfer Credit Evaluation

Columbus State awards transfer credit through the evaluation of postsecondary transcripts, including military transcripts, as well as prior learning credit. To learn more about how to submit college transcripts and the transfer credit evaluation process, please see below.

Options for Submitting College Transcripts

Electronic delivery is preferred for most efficient processing; please order a transcript to be sent electronically from each prior institution attended. If an email address is required for the order, please have transcripts sent to transcriptevaluation@cscc.edu.

Please note: We cannot accept transcripts sent from a student or personal email account. Documents must come directly from an official source.

If electronic delivery is not possible, transcripts can be sent through U.S. Mail to:
Columbus State Community College
ATTN: Enrollment Services Operations
550 E. Spring Street
Columbus, OH 43215

Please note: Transcripts must be received in an original, sealed envelope from the issuing institution or third-party service to be considered official.

Transcripts in an original, sealed envelope from the issuing school or third-party service can be delivered in-person to the following locations during business hours:

Transcript Evaluation Process

Transcripts are evaluated within 5-7 business days from when they are received and an evaluation email is sent to the student’s CSCC email when evaluation is complete.

Please note: Due to Columbus State’s transition to a new student information system, applicants for Autumn 2026 will receive evaluation confirmations once their applications are processed in April 2026.

  • Credit is awarded for all official transcripts received from regionally accredited colleges and universities, domestic and foreign.
  • Columbus State does not evaluate transfer credit appearing on official college transcript(s) from another college.
  • Courses that are accepted at CSCC are given transfer credit (“K” or “KD”). “K” credit is given to courses with grades of A, B, C, S or Pass. Effective April 2026, Transfer credit will be evaluated with grades of “KA,” “KB,” “KC,” “KD,” or “K” for S or Pass. “KD” credit is given to courses with a grade of D.
  • Eligible examination scores (e.g., AP, IB, CLEP, CompTIA) are given examination credit (“X”).
  • Prior Learning credit (e.g., military coursework) is given non-traditional credit (“N”).
  • Courses that may have an equivalent but require further evaluation through the appropriate academic department as assigned “special” or “technical” credit, 8000 or 9001-level credit in the course subject.

Once a transcript is evaluated, students can see the credit awarded in Cougarweb Self-Service by navigating to the Academic Profile menu and selecting “Unofficial Transcript”.

Students who were awarded special or technical credit but believe there is a Columbus State equivalent for a specific course, should submit a copy of the course syllabus from their former institution to the appropriate academic department  Chairperson for consideration. If you did not keep a copy of a course syllabus, most institutions will provide a copy for you if you reach out to the department that offered that course.

To see how courses will transfer to CSCC from a previous institution, visit Transferology and create an account. Additionally, the Ohio Department of Higher Education, in collaboration with public institutions of higher education in Ohio, helps students customize an educational pathway that fits their needs and budget using Ohio’s Credit Transfer Tool.

Official transcripts from outside of the US, which are in English and use the US grading system, can be submitted according to the instructions above.

Transcripts from foreign institutions which require translation to English and do not use the US grading system require a course-by-course evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE) member organization.
Students should submit their transcript to the evaluation company and ask that the transcript and evaluation be sent to transcriptevaluation@cscc.edu when complete.

The following evaluation companies have CSCC-specific portals:

  • Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) – CSCC Portal
  • The Evaluation Company (TEC) – CSCC Portal

Please be aware that most credit from foreign institutions is awarded special or technical credit (see “Evaluation Guidelines” for more information).
