Online Learning Checklist

Are you ready for online learning?

Welcome to Columbus State! We hope you are ready to get off to a great start with your online or blended course.
Here is a checklist you can use to be sure you are technology-ready:

[   ] Check your technology.
  • Click here to run the Browser check.  Blackboard will tell you if your internet browser is supported and if you need any additional plugins to access your course content.

Firefox and Chrome are the preferred browsers for access to Blackboard.  Safari and Edge are good alternatives. (Internet Explorer is not supported by Blackboard and not recommended.)
  • To learn more about using your personal computer for online courses, check out our Technical requirements page.

[   ] Questions about Blackboard?
  • Join one of the free Blackboard Drop-In sessions offered at the beginning of the semester. Click here to view the schedule.
  • No time to drop-in? For a quick overview, check out our Blackboard crash course video series to learn how to navigate and complete common tasks in your online course.
  • For a more in-depth and interactive look at Blackboard, check out the online Blackboard orientation, often required for COLS 1100 (First Year Experience Seminar).
  • Access our on-demand Blackboard Help resources for additional information.
  • Note: Each online course will be made available in Blackboard 4 days before the start of the course.

[   ] Need access on the go?
  • If you are accessing Blackboard on a Smartphone or tablet, download the Blackboard mobile app. Available on Apple, Google, or Windows devices. Click here for more information.

[   ] Need Technology support?
  • Contact the IT Support Center. Call 614-287-5050 or e-mail helpdesk@cscc.edu when you need technical help with Blackboard, Self Service, or any other technology used at Columbus State.
  • Review our student telecommuting resources and help articles at cscc.edu/techforstudents for more information about frequently asked questions.
  • If needed, to discover your username and password, go to password.cscc.edu. To get started, you will need either your Cougar ID number or full social security number (using no spaces or dashes), along with your last name.

[   ] My course materials are available in Blackboard? Now what?
  • Continue to check your Columbus state email daily. Look for important communications from Financial Aid, Marketing, and your instructors. To access your email, go to student.cscc.edu.
  • Access the secure “CSCC” wireless network on your mobile device for the best connection when you are on campus. Log in using your Columbus State username and password. Device-specific instructions can be found here: Connect to Wi-Fi
  • Find and review your syllabus for each class. Pay attention to the course content, due dates, grading policies, and contact information provided by your instructor. Explore your online classroom. Compare the content that you find in Blackboard to the course requirements listed in your syllabus.
