The pre-college initiative will target high school students, educators, and counselors. A key component of this initiative was the coordination and implementation of a cybersecurity summer camps for high school students and educators designed to inspire a future in cybersecurity careers. Future efforts will focus in expanding the summer camp initiatives and providing educational briefing sessions for high school parents, advisors, and guidance counselors. The pre-college initiative serves as an important method for driving program awareness and recruiting prospective high school students.

High School Outreach
The cybersecurity high school outreach program is designed to inspire students to pursue a career in cybersecurity; leading to positions as security analysts, network security specialists, information assurance professionals, etc. Key components of the Cybersecurity project’s high school outreach include:
Cybersecurity faculty/staff are active in both high school and local community based organizations that engage both middle school and high school age groups. The cybersecurity team also participates in Columbus State’s We are STEM event. Request our team to visit an offsite locations to provide an overview of the Cybersecurity program and engage students through various hands-on learning activities in their classrooms and other educational learning centers.
Periodic Cybersecurity information sessions will be held at CSCC (main campus) beginning Spring 2017. High school students, parents, educators, and guidance counselors are welcome to attend. CSCC is an open enrollment college offering a 100% acceptance rate for the Cybersecurity program, but designed to be a rigorous program that requires strong foundation and competencies in math and science. We have placed emphasis on outreach to STEM based schools, schools with existing or developing cybersecurity programs, and students having pre-exposure to STEM curriculum.
