Spotting fake jobs before you apply

Student News | Monday, February 9, 2026

Searching for a job as a student is an exciting step toward building your career. However, scammers often target students with fake job opportunities to steal your personal information or money.

Here are signs that a job offer may be a scam:

  • They offer you the job without an interview or any real screening.
  • The pay seems unrealistically high for the role, your experience, or the hours listed.
  • They pressure you to act fast, using phrases like “urgent” or “limited time.”
  • They only communicate by text apps or chat and avoid phone calls or video meetings.
  • They send a check and ask you to buy equipment or send money back.
