QR-code phishing, also known as “quishing,” is a type of phishing attack that uses QR codes to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or downloading malware.
Scammers may use QR codes in emails, text messages, social media, public places, or even approach people directly to scan them.
You can protect yourself by following these steps:
- Avoid entering sensitive information into websites accessed through scanned QR codes.
- Be suspicious of unsolicited QR codes.
- Be cautious of unsolicited messages.
- Watch out for messages creating a sense of urgency.
- Never respond to requests for gift cards.
- Review web links before clicking.
- Keep your technology up to date.
