Change of Major
Your major/program of study is listed on your Form I-20. Changing your major may affect your academic plan, the amount of time needed to complete your degree, and your F-1 immigration record.
Before changing your major, F-1 students should contact International Student Services (ISS) at jtang4@cscc.edu to discuss how the change may affect their F-1 status and immigration record.
A recently issued DHS Final Rule includes additional restrictions on changes of major, including restrictions on changing majors during the first academic year of study. This rule is currently on hold due to a federal court injunction and is not in effect at this time.
If the Final Rule takes effect in the future, changing your major could also affect the length of your program of study. If additional time is needed to complete the new major beyond your authorized period of stay, you may be required to request an Extension of Stay through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which would involve an additional application, review, and approval process.
Because changing your major may have both academic and immigration consequences, students are strongly encouraged to consult with ISS before making a change of major.
Change of Name, Address or Emergency Contact
F-1 students are required to report a change of their U.S. physical address within 10 days of moving.
Update your physical address in Workday under your Personal Profile → Personal and Contact Information. No approval is required to update your address in Workday.
International Student Services (ISS) will receive notification of the address change through Workday and update your address in your SEVIS record.
An address change does not require or result in a new Form I-20.
