Accreditation
The Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
The Surgical Technology A.A.S. degree is a five-semester program that consists of
academic, laboratory, and clinical instruction. Student surgical technologists learn
the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique while combining knowledge
of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation, and technologies
to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
The mission of the program is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are
competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior)
learning domains to enter the profession.
As part of the program, students take the National Certification Exam through web-based
testing on the Columbus State campus. The program’s National Certification Exam pass
rate is 82%.
For the 2025 reporting year, the program outcomes are:
