Columbus State Joins AWS Academy to Offer Authorized AWS Cloud Computing Curriculum

AWS AcademyColumbus State Community College today announced participation in AWS Academy, a new Amazon Web Services (AWS) program that offers cloud computing courses aligned to valuable AWS Certification exams, and designed to help students acquire the skills and credentials needed in the cloud IT workforce.

Launching in October, Columbus State Community College will offer two non-credit professional development courses: AWS Academy Cloud Foundations and AWS Academy Cloud Computing Architecture. These courses prepare participants to pursue the AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS Solutions Architect certifications. The six-week introductory course, AWS Academy Cloud Foundations, provides foundational cloud knowledge appropriate for students as well as professionals working in information technology or related fields. The 10-week course, AWS Academy Cloud Computing Architecture, is a deep dive learning experience that includes lecture content, hands-on labs, and project work.

“This is a great example of how Columbus State helps companies – like Nationwide – build and reskill their IT workforce,” said Jim Fowler, executive vice president, Nationwide CIO. “In becoming an AWS Academy member, the college is also playing a larger role by meeting the increased demand for cloud-oriented jobs in Central Ohio.”

“The AWS Academy curriculum that Columbus State is offering will help busy IT professionals advance their careers while enabling employers to quickly fill gaps in high-demand jobs through targeted education that builds on existing skills,” said Columbus State President David Harrison. “We look forward to growing the program and building further relationships with Amazon in our region toward offering expanded cloud computing education opportunities.”

In addition to AWS Academy, Columbus State currently works with Amazon as a Career Choice education service provider to local fulfillment center employees, both onsite and through voucher-supported enrollment. Columbus State also teaches AWS principles in an onsite education program for Nationwide IT employees.

AWS Academy curriculum is developed and maintained by AWS subject matter experts, ensuring it is up to date and reflects current services and best practices. Courses are taught by AWS Academy Accredited Instructors who are trained by AWS to help students become proficient in AWS technology, the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform.
