Sexual Violence
View the One Love Foundation’s 45 minute film about a fictional college relationship which contains the red flags and (often subtle) warning signs of an unhealthy relationship that devolves into violence. The film is emotionally intense and based on real life examples; however, whether you are an employee or a student, the 60-minute in-depth facilitated discussion about the film which follows will enrich your understanding of the progression of violent relationships and opportunities for intervention.
Through the combination of films and conversation, the One Love Foundation seeks to “educate young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empowering them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better.”
In this 60-minute session, you will explore the more subtle behaviors in unhealthy versus healthy relationships through different video clips from the One Love Foundation. The video clips form the basis for a discussion about the impact of emotional abuse, effects of social media on relationship behavior, healthy ways to communicate concerns and opportunities to employ simple intervention strategies as third parties who pick up on the signs of an unhealthy relationship of a friend or family member.

Intimate relationships can be difficult to navigate and sometimes abusive behavior can be hard to identify. This 60-minute presentation includes a viewing of the One Love Foundation’s Love Labyrinth video with a facilitated discussion about emotional abuse in intimate relationships. Starting a conversation about healthy and unhealthy relationships with someone you know can be difficult, but it can make all the difference in their lives.

TED Talk: Why domestic violence victims don’t leave
Leslie Morgan Steiner was in “crazy love,” that is, madly in love with a man who routinely abused her and threatened her life. Steiner tells her story of her relationship, correcting misconceptions many people hold about victims of domestic violence, and explaining how we can all help break the silence.
TED Talk: Me Too is a movement, not a moment
In 2006, Tarana Burke was consumed by a desire to do something about the sexual violence she saw in her community. She took out a piece of paper, wrote "Me Too" across the top and laid out an action plan for a movement centered on the power of empathy between survivors. More than a decade later, she reflects on what has since become a global movement and makes a powerful call to dismantle the power and privilege that are building blocks of sexual violence.
TED Talk: Violence against women- it’s a men’s issue
Domestic violence and sexual abuse are often called "women's issues." But in this bold, blunt talk, Jackson Katz points out that these are intrinsically men's issues and shows how these violent behaviors are tied to definitions of manhood. A clarion call for us to call out unacceptable behavior and be leaders of change.
TED Talk: Men need to talk about their sexual abuse
Seth Shelley brings forward his own story of sexual assault and asks men to open up about their personal stories too. He explains that if we share and listen to one another, we might see beyond our misconceptions and see each other just a little more clearly.
Communication and Consent
This vignette shows an example of communication breakdown. If communication is important in everyday exchanges, it is even more important when it comes to sexual activity.
Consent. It’s as simple as tea.
In this short video, sexual consent is explained using tea as a metaphor. It's a simple as tea!
Bystander Intervention
Created by Ohio State University in 2014, this video shows two potential outcomes for the same story. If you witness a potentially harmful situation, who will you be?
