Facilities & Technology Fee Rebate FAQ
Beginning Spring 2021, students that meet all eligibility requirements, including living in Franklin County, Ohio, are eligible for a $20 rebate of the Technology and Facilities Fee they paid. This $20 rebate is available each Autumn and Spring semester (the fee is not charged in summer) and totals the average cost a Franklin County homeowner pays as a result of the March 2020 passage of Issue 21, a capital bond issue that funds classroom, lab and technology improvements to the College’s Franklin County facilities.
No. It is not automatic; you must submit a Technology & Facilities Fee Rebate Request within 60 days after the end of the semester and meet all of the eligibility requirements.
As part of the application process, the College will look at your overall charges for the Technology and Facilities Fee and then determine payments applied to your overall tuition and fees balance. Payments are first applied towards tuition charges and then towards other fees, such as the Technology and Facilities Fee. If you had an agency/sponsor (other than Financial Aid) pay your tuition and fees, your tuition and fees may be paid, but you may not meet this requirement since you didn't pay the fee. For agency/sponsor students, view your voucher from your employer to determine what portion of your fees they paid.
No, there is not a required length of time. However, a student's current address must be in Franklin County, Ohio and as part of the application process, you will be asked if you live in Franklin County, Ohio at the time of submitting the rebate request.
No, unless you are in the military with an APO, FPO, or DPO address as your preferred residence address on file with the College and meet all other eligibility requirements.
The rebate amount approximates the annual tax increase using the median value of owner-occupied housing units in Franklin County from 2014-2018. The amount is to rebate a portion of the potential tax or rent increases that Franklin County residents may experience as a result of Issue 21. The rebate is not intended to be a refund of the total amount of the Technology and Facilities Fee paid.
If your rebate request is approved, you will receive an email sent to your Columbus State email account within 90 days after the end of the semester.
Some denial notifications will appear as you fill out the rebate request, others may occur after a review process by the College. You will receive an email sent to your Columbus State email account if your request is denied as part of the review process.
In most cases, no. If your employer paid all of the Technology & Facilities Fee, you are not eligible for the rebate. However, if you or Financial Aid (such as a Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, or Institutional Scholarship) paid at least $20 of the Technology and Facilities Fee and meet all of the other requirements, you are eligible to apply for the rebate. If you are not sure, you can submit the rebate request. As part of the rebate request and review process, you will be notified if you are not eligible for the rebate.
