Social Work & Human Services AAS
The Associate of Applied Science in Social Work & Human Services provides students the opportunity to apply for certification and/or credentialing through two state boards (The Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board and The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board).
Based on the coursework and practicum experiences, students are work-ready as soon as they graduate. Graduates often find jobs as case managers, case aides, chemical dependency counselor assistants and social work assistants. Job duties include:
Conduct client assessments | Develop treatment plans | Lead groups | Participate in crisis intervention | Link people with community resources | Provide case management
315 hours of hands-on clinical study over two years.
Students have gained the necessary skills and education to become employed in the field upon graduation.
Work with people of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and ages. Our grads work in settings such as substance abuse, mental health, developmental disabilities and general social work.

Our Human Services Assistant Certificate is designed to train students with developmental disabilities for gainful employment.
Information sessions are held each semester; including at least one during the day and one in the evening. This session is mandatory for students to attend prior to or when attending the first SAHS Introductory course.

Students must be on time to participate in the information session. Please review the SAHS Professional Expectation Document prior to attending. You do not need to register, you can simply show up on the noted dates/times.
AAS or AA?
The Associate of Applied Science in SAHS includes clinical experience, credential, certification and licensure opportunities. It can lead directly to employment in the field after graduation. It can also be transferred toward a bachelor’s degree in Social Work (scroll down to see SAHS Transfer Programs)
The Associate of Arts in Social Work (offered by the department of Arts & Sciences) is a non-occupational degree designed to fulfill the first two years of a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. It fulfills most of your general education requirements with only two Social Work theory classes. More on AA Social Work.
