Autumn Semester will mark a new beginning for Columbus State as the college will offer
The Second Quantum Revolution – QIS-1110. The course is an introduction to quantum information sciences. Adam Keller, Biological
& Physical Sciences professor, says this is the first time a community college has
offered this coursework. Mary Reiter, Social & Behavioral Sciences professor, will
co-teach the course.
Keller says the goal of QIS-1110 is to provide students with a familiarity with QIS since the implications of this technology will range from cryptography to medicine to business and finance.
“The whole point of the course is to put science first and math later, giving non-STEM and STEM majors alike the opportunity to learn about the science as early as their first semester in college without a stiff math barrier that currently gatekeeps the science,” said Keller.
Other team members developing the course include:
- Caleb Evans, Biological & Physical Sciences instructor
- Michael Greer, Information Systems Technology assistant professor
- Kristen Oganowski, Humanities instructor
- Katherine Hammond, Humanities instructor
- Karen Rippe, Biological & Physical Sciences professor
