Brief Individual Counseling
Brief individual counseling focuses on short-term treatment goals in order to facilitate adjustment to college, improve functioning, and address acute symptoms blocking student success. After the initial consultation, the counselor will determine if individual therapy is the best approach in addressing student concerns or will recommend other resources. If individual counseling is recommended, the student will be scheduled with an individual therapist. Therapists are available to meet with students for an intake followed by 1-6 sessions, which are between 45 and 60 minutes in length. Together, the student and their therapist will review the recommendations made during the initial assessment, set goals, and determine the approximate number of sessions that may be needed. Clinicians will determine the frequency of therapy based upon presenting problems and student needs.
It is worth mentioning that therapy is a collaboration between the therapist and student to address problems actively. Progress depends on many factors such as the complexity and duration of the problem, the motivation of the student to address these problems, and other life circumstances. While results cannot be guaranteed, most students find that they benefit from counseling.

Counseling Services has teamed up with Uwill to give students access to counselors through their tele-therapy plateform. When scheduleing with Uwill, students are able to select from a diverse group of counselors and attend sessions via video, phone, chat, or messaging. Each student will be able to attend up to 6 sessions after the initial consultation and intake appointment.
