F-1 Transient Students
F-1 Transient/Guest Applicant Instructions (currently hold an I-20 at another college)
F-1 Transient/Guest students are F1 visa holders who are not intending to transfer to Columbus State but are planning to temporarily take classes for transfer back to the student's home school.
Step 1: Apply to Columbus State
Your first step to taking classes as a transient/guest student is to apply for admission to Columbus State, using our online application.
IMPORTANT: Please choose the following options so we can process your application correctly:
General Area of Interest at CSCC: Transient/Guest
Program/Major: Transient/Guest
Degree/Certificate: Transient/Guest Student
Once your application is submitted it will be reviewed and you will be admitted within 2-3 business days. No additional documents or forms are required for F-1 transient admission.
Step 2: Choose your courses and meet with your advisor at your home college
Once you receive your admission notice by email you’ll want to determine which courses are right for your program of study at your home college, and work with your academic advisor to assure they will transfer in and apply toward your degree.
The online tool, Transferology.com can be used to find course equivalencies for many institutions. Select "Search for equivalent courses" to see how specific courses will transfer between Columbus State and your home institution.
Review Columbus State course descriptions, and choose the course(s) that work for your major and your schedule. Then, meet with the academic advisor at your school to discuss your plans and assure that the transfer will be seamless.
Step 3: Access your Columbus State email and CougarWeb
Once you're accepted, you will receive an email with information on how to access your CougarID and set up your student email account. You will also use your student email username and password to register for classes through our course registration system, CougarWeb. Step 4: Register for classes
If you want to register for courses that have prerequisites at Columbus State you will need to have your official college transcripts sent to Columbus State for evaluation or you will need to show a copy of these transcripts to an academic advisor at Columbus State in order to be able to register for the courses. Common prerequisites include English Composition and Math. Once your prerequisites have been evaluated, you will receive a confirmation email in your Columbus State email. Then, you will be free to register for classes via CougarWeb.
Step 5: Pay Your Fees
All fees must be paid by the published Columbus State fee payment deadline dates. Learn more about payment options and payment plans offered by Columbus State.
