Top 10 back-to-school cybersecurity habits to practice

With the new semester underway, the Information Security Office wants to help make your Columbus State experience a safe one. To accomplish this, his department will occasionally provide cybersecurity best practices and alerts throughout the year.

Here are the top-10 cybersecurity habits to practice:

1.    Don’t be a victim of phishing.  Think twice before clicking on links.

2.    Use caution when emails are flagged as EXTERNAL. 

3.    Use antivirus software.

4.    Verify requests for private or direct deposit information.

5.    Use strong passwords and store those passwords in a secure location. 

6.    Keep your devices and apps up-to-date.

7.    Lock your screens when not in use.

8.    Password protect your technology, including mobile devices.

9.    Delete or shred sensitive information when it’s no longer needed.

10.  If it looks suspicious, report it!
