About:
Thia Torges grew up in the woods of Ostrander, Ohio, about 40 miles Northeast of Columbus.
Thia’s love of math led her to a degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio State
University; she worked as an engineer for nine years. Her curiosity about people eventually
led her to pursue a PhD in Personality Psychology from the University of Michigan.
She conducted research in graduate and post graduate school on adjustment and aging.
After pausing her career to raise her newborn son, Thia returned to Central Ohio and
joined Columbus State Community College as an adjunct instructor. Today, she greatly
enjoys working with the students in her classes to find healthier ways of thinking
about ourselves and others. She frequently integrates evidence-based practices, like
meditation, into the curriculum in order to enhance the psychological well-being of
the people in her classes.
In addition to teaching psychology, Thia enjoys gardening, traveling, being in nature,
spending time with her son and their cat, meditating, and yoga.
