Adoption Deadlines
Each semester, the Textbook Supervisor will email adoption information and adoption form due dates to the Deans, Department Chairs, and additional contacts that support the adoption process. Forms should be sent back as early as possible following the adoption form guidelines.
Adoptions are due 7 days prior to the semester registration opening date, except for Instant Access (IA) adoptions which are due 28 days prior to allow time for Curriculum Management to link course material fees IA courses.
Accessibility requirement: Please be aware that all materials need to be accessible to all students. See more information at cscc.edu/disability.
Adoption assistance: Contact Robert Neutzling at rneutzling@cscc.edu if you have questions about specific textbook adoptions or the adoption process. If you have specific department questions, please reach out to lead staff in the department.
Notice: It is important to provide the bookstore with accurate and complete adoption information, so students who are required to purchase their course materials from the bookstore are able to such as CCP students with a voucher, and so that the bookstore is providing school districts with accurate information for placing textbook orders for their CCP embedded courses. Review Course Material Formats
Affordability Solutions: Prices of textbooks can be negotiated. We are available to attend academic department or publisher meetings to assist with price negotiations and other questions.
There are a variety of digital course material options which are affordable solutions for students versus a tradition print textbook. Be sure to ask the publisher about digital alternatives, such as: Cengage Unlimited or Instant Access.
See affordabilty page for further information.
Submit Adoption Form
Enter Department and Semester of adoption: On to the top of the form indicate the department and semester the adoption is being requested for. Any additional notes or instructions specific to your selected textbooks may be made on the bottom of the adoption form.
Enter estimated enrollment: Enter the estimated enrollment for every course being offered for the semester. Estimates should include all courses offered at the Columbus Campus, Delaware Campus, Regional Learning Centers, distance learning, and College Credit Plus high school embedded courses.
Enter course material information: Enter all textbook information on the adoption form (ISBN, Title, Edition, Author and Publisher). ISBN numbers need to be verified by the Publisher.
- Old edition or out of print: Adopted textbooks must be a current publication. The Bookstore cannot order obsolete editions. The Textbook Supervisor will follow-up with the Department Chair if an old edition or out of print book is adopted.
- No textbook required: Please note any courses or specific section numbers that do not require a textbook. This includes specific sections using OER, iBooks, or special pilot courses. Let us know, so we can inform students on our end.
- New materials: To ensure books are on the shelves by the start of classes, it is important to verify the lead time with the publisher for new custom material and communicate this information on the adoption form.
Return form: Please return via email to Robert Neutzling neutzling@cscc.edu by the due date deadline.
Confirm booklist: Once the Bookstore compiles the complete list of adoptions, the book adoption list will be sent to the academic department contact(s) for review and updates. If there is an adoption discrepancy it needs to be corrected before the books are ordered. Once orders are placed it becomes costly for the college to accommodate these changes.
Instant Access (IA)
Instant access is an affordable digital option where students have access to correct materials through blackboard the first day of class. If you are interested in getting a course included, reach out to the bookstore to find out the discounted instant access price for the course. Please note that all sections of the course will change to instant access if a course gets included.
FAQ
How does the fee work? Each IA course section is identified and noted in CSCC's course listings; when a student registers for one of these sections an IA fee will be included on the student's tuition and fees statement. Note: for College Credit Plus (CCP) funded courses, the IA fee gets charged to the high school district during invoicing. This is for both embedded and non-embedded courses.
How do students get access on the first day? As long as the student is enrolled on the first day of classes, the e-book will automatically be uploaded to their Blackboard the first day of classes.
How do I add content to Blackboard? Instructors add a link. If instructors need further assistance they should reach out to their department head.
Benefits: Up to 75% off traditional course materials and students have access to the correct materials through Blackboard the first day of class. Student's accounts are charged upon registration for the course, so need to order or pick up from the Store and eliminates the need for students to use access codes. Professors still choose their publisher content--RedShelf and Columbus State partner with over 100 publishers, so even long tail publishers and professor authored content could be included.
