Six students who attended overseas sustainability boot camps shared their experiences with fellow students during an Aug. 1 program on the Columbus Campus.

While students were responsible for travel costs and taking part in the boot camps, Columbus City Council and SWACO provided funding to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses. The students studied at two week-long camps in France and the French Caribbean. It is the second year Columbus State students have taken part in study abroad sustainability boot camps. Last year, two students attended.

Jennifer McCord, assistant professor of Business and Paralegal Programs, has been organizing the program for the Sustainability Group. That group connects climate-conscious individuals, hosts learning and service events, and promotes sustainable practices. It has more than 200 members representing at least 40 areas of study. The group was awarded the college’s 2023 Student Group of the Year and the Environmental Council of Ohio's 2024 Organization Award.
