Noteworthy increase in international student enrollment
Update | Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Above, Candace Allen, F1 admissions advisor, addresses students in the International Bridge Program on Aug. 20 in Mitchell Hall. It is an orientation-style event for incoming international students enrolling at Columbus State.
This Autumn, the International Student Services (ISS) office successfully enrolled 87 new students under the F1 non-immigrant visa in Autumn Semester. That number marks a significant 74% increase compared to Autumn Semester 2023. It also brings the total number of F1 students actively enrolled at Columbus State to 219, the highest number at one time for the college.
The enrollment process involves navigating several challenges, including a rigorous admissions procedure, visa interviews at U.S. embassies with high denial rates, and the requirement to maintain full-time enrollment status. Additionally, F1 students must ensure that at least 75% of their courses are in-person or blended to maintain their legal status in the U.S. The F1 visa’s primary purpose is to allow students to live in the U.S. and complete a degree before returning to their home countries.
ISS reports that on Aug. 20, New Student Programs and International Bridge Program organizers provided a warm welcome and essential introduction to Columbus State for the new international students as they embarked on their academic journey.
