Each assisted with hosting on the Columbus Campus in 2023 and the travel plans to Germany this year.
A group of 10 Columbus State students and four faculty members have returned from
a 10-day Sister Cities sponsored trip to Dresden, Germany. The program is an annual
exchange between Columbus State and its sister institution Berufsschulzentrum für Elektrotechnik Dresden, also known as BS ZET.
Students from both schools are paired up and stay in the host city hotel. This year,
the German students represented Engineering and IT, while Columbus State students
represented Engineering Technology, IT, Environmental Science, and Theater. Activities
included tours of manufacturing facilities, museums, and historical sites. There were
trips to Prague and Berlin, a volunteer opportunity, and walking tours of Dresden.
While there, students had a group project comparing the education systems in both
countries. Some past program participants were able to meet or reunite with the American
students.
Travel funds were exclusively provided through donations to and support from Dresden Sister Cities, Inc., and the Columbus State Foundation. The city of Dresden provided funds for student lodging and food.
