Rehearsals underway for first post-pandemic concert

Update | Tuesday, September 14, 2021

After an 18-month hiatus, the Columbus State Concert Band resumed rehearsals at the start of the semester. Pictured above is the second rehearsal held on September 7 in room 123 of the Center for Technology and Learning (TL). The band’s players include students, faculty, and community members.

“The current health safety measures require extra caution for the Concert Band,” said Thomas Lloyd, director. “Masking has been a priority for us. Only wind players lower masks while playing instruments, and they use bell covers as an extra measure.” (Precautions are based on the International Coalition Performing Arts Aerosol Study.) Additional precautions include the use of a large room air purifier, opening outside doors, and limiting rehearsals to one hour.

The first post-pandemic concert is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30 at 7 p.m. in WD and will be free to the public. Lloyd has been the director since 1999.
