English Department hosting National African American Read-in Chain

Student News | Thursday, January 16, 2025

Columbus State’s English Department will host a local “Read-In” event on Feb. 6 as part of the annual National African American Read-In Chain. This nationwide celebration highlights Black writers and literacy awareness.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to take part and share published and original works, including poems, excerpts, spoken word, and artwork, to honor this Black History Month tradition at Columbus State.

The Columbus State African American Read-In Chain will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the first-floor Nestor Hall West Lounge. (An additional virtual Read-In will take place that afternoon on Zoom from 2 to 3:30 p.m.)

If you would like to share and present a work during the Read-In, sign up at this link, or email Robyn Lyons-Robinson, English professor, at rlyons@cscc.edu and include your name, author name, and title of the work. The submission deadline is Monday, Feb. 3. Presentations are limited to 3 minutes. (Please indicate if you will present during the in-person session, virtual session, or both).
