Successful Poetry Slam

On April 25, 12 talented and creative Columbus State students competed in a National Poetry Month Slam hosted by the Columbus State Library and the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML), where the event was held downtown. Dozens of people cheered on the participants. Poet Barbara Fant emceed the Slam and shared her slam poems. 

Student poets received guidance and support from Columbus State Counselor Steven Waddell, assistant professors of English Matthew Connolly, Su Flatt, and Michael Keller, and Reference & Instruction Library staff member Sharon Richter. Digital Art, Media & Design Instructor Toia Rivera, Reference & Instruction Library staff member Mira Scarnecchia, and CML’s Ty Williams served as judges. Students Alexis Mitchell, Jay Harvey, and Annabelle Wright placed first, second, and third respectively.
