What started in 2013 as a modest professional development opportunity for Columbus State faculty has grown into one of the region’s premier teaching and learning conferences. The annual Faculty Idea Exchange (FIX) Teaching Conference draws educators from across Ohio to exchange innovative ideas, share proven classroom strategies, and collaborate on new ways to improve student success.

The June 5 event in the Center for Workforce Development (WD) welcomed 152 attendees representing 26 institutions, including The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Miami University, Kent State University, Cuyahoga Community College, and others from across the region.

In addition to 13 breakout sessions, a highlight of the conference was keynote and plenary speaker Mary-Ann Winkelmes. Her featured presentation on TILT (Transparency in Learning and Teaching) Higher Education provided attendees with practical, research-based strategies to improve student success, engagement, and equity.

“This year’s gathering was a tremendous success, continuing its tradition of fostering innovation and excellence in teaching and learning,” said Psychology Professor Ron Elizaga, a member of Columbus State’s Instructional Success Committee, which organizes the event. “When the first FIX Conference was held 13 years ago, TikTok did not exist, and members of this year’s freshman class were a mere five years old!”

The conference remains free of charge while offering a full day of professional development, networking opportunities, featured speakers, conference materials, meals, vendor booths, and other valuable experiences. “This commitment to accessibility continues to make Columbus State's FIX a distinctive and highly valued event for educators throughout Ohio,” said Elizaga.
