After two successful events last month, Columbus State Community College’s Courageous Conversations series continues this semester with two more events designed to empower women.

Launched in 2015, the Conversations are periodic public forums designed to engage the community on issues impacting central Ohio and beyond.

March 22 - 4th annual daylong "Women's Leadership Summit, Empowerment in Action!" featuring Piper Kerman, author of "Orange is the New Black."

• 9 a.m. - Summit kickoff
• 10 a.m. - Session I features a feminist storytelling interactive workshop and a panel conversation about addiction and recovery led by Columbus State professor Dianne Fidelibus.
• 12:15 p.m. - Keynote on empowerment in action by Piper Kerman.
• 1 p.m. - Session II features a panel discussion on human trafficking with Beth Morrison, a Columbus State student and human trafficking survivor.
• 2 p.m. - Session III features a discussion on shifting the mindset from prostitution-to-victim-crime including Mark Rapp, Director of the Human Trafficking Task Force, Columbus Division of Police.

Community partners include Amethyst, Columbus Young Professionals, Dress for Success, League of Women Voters, Ohio Job & Family Services, Women's Business Center of Ohio, YWCA, Latina Mentor Academy, Goodwill Industries Columbus and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. These partners and additional organizations will be onsite for a daylong Empowerment Fair.

Courageous Conversations continues next week:

March 29 - 6 p.m. "Women in Business: Addressing Pay Equity" featuring Elizabeth Brown, Columbus City council; Tracy Maxwell Heard, Vice President of Dress for Success; Mary B. Relotto, Founder of Dames Bond; Sarah Pariser, The Women's Fund of Central Ohio; Carmen Daniels, Chairperson of Business Programs at Columbus State.
Both events will be held in the 4th floor conference center at the Center for Workforce Development, 315 Cleveland Ave., Columbus.
