AWS Academy is a new Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) program, designed to expand learning opportunities in cloud computing throughout the world, in an effort to meet the growing employment demand for cloud computing specialists. Knowledge gained will help you earn valuable industry-recognized certifications in AWS.

Columbus State frequently offers the Academy Cloud Fundamentals as well as a varying option of Associate-level certification prep courses. Check the website for details on which courses are currently available: . 

When students enroll in an AWS Academy course, they are acquiring and expanding the skills and credentials needed for careers in cloud computing technology. It also puts them on a path to prepare for industry-recognized AWS Certifications.

The Academy Cloud Foundations course is entry-level; however, participants should have the following:

  • General IT Technical Knowledge
  • General IT Business Knowledge

         The Associate-level certification prep course are designed for professionals with experience. Refer to the prerequisites listed for courses of interest on this page:


Students have the opportunity to learn cloud computing through creative interactive learning, lab work, and state-of-the-art digital educational materials that AWS Academy provides through their exclusive Learning Management System (LMS) platform. All content is regularly updated to reflect the latest services and best practices.

Trained and accredited AWS instructors who hold associate and professional level AWS certifications teach the courses. The instructors are equipped with knowledge, tools, and teaching techniques to help students become proficient in AWS services and solutions and prepare college graduates and professionals at all levels to advance their careers in cloud computing technologies and business transformation.

All course content exists in a virtual space, but to ensure the best learning outcomes and offer technical support for hands-on activities, AWS Academy courses are currently offered face-to-face only.

Academy Cloud Foundations: six-week course and meets 1 night per week.

Associate-level certification courses are typically 12 weeks. Refer to the course descriptions on this page for details

Columbus State Community College is the only institution in central Ohio offering academy courses. The course series will always be offered at Columbus State’s main campus and may periodically be offered at other remote locations or learning resource centers, like our Dublin campus. There is the opportunity for employers to request exclusive training to be offered to employees and is available on a first come first serve basis.

Sinclair Community College is the next closest institution that offers AWS Academy.

There is no age requirement to take AWS classes; however, you must be 18 years of age or older to sit for exams.
