Amazon Web Services Academy

Columbus State is a proud AWS Academy Member Institution and is committed to helping you advance your career in cloud technologies. AWS Academy courses are designed to help current students and IT professionals develop the cloud technology skills needed for today’s rapidly changing IT landscape. 

Columbus State’s Office of Workforce Innovation offers non-credit AWS Academy classes that will be taught on Columbus State’s campus by AWS Academy-accredited instructors.  All course content is developed and maintained by AWS to ensure you your learning reflects current services and best practices. Courses also include hands-on labs to help you apply your learning and prepare for the aligned AWS Certification Exams. Student enrolling in an AWS Academy course also receive a certification practice exam and discount voucher. 

 

Scholarships Available

Thanks to a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Ed, Columbus State can offer a $2,000 grant for tuition and fees to adult students pursuing in-demand certificates. Visit cscc.edu/certificates to learn more and apply.  

 

AWS Academy Courses

WIIT-8100-01-51576: Academy Cloud Foundations
Prepares students for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification exam.

Course Outline

Cost: $725
Course Dates: September 13, 2021 - November 8, 2021
Class Times: Mondays from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
Registration Opens: July 1, 2021
Prerequisite Knowledge: This entry-level course provides an introduction to AWS cloud services and practices and is suitable for all students.

Prepares students for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certification exam.

Course Outline

Cost: $1250
Prerequisite Knowledge: This is an intermediate-level course designed for individuals with a background in IT. We recommend students have:

  • Completed AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (ACF) or have equivalent experience
  • A working knowledge of distributed systems
  • Familiarity with general networking concepts
  • A working knowledge of multi-tier architectures
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts

WIIT-8120-01-51580: Academy Cloud Development
Prepares students for the AWS Certified Developer- Associate certification exam. 

Course Outline

Cost: $1250
Course Dates: September 13, 2021 - December 6, 2021
Class Times: Mondays from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
Registration Opens: July 1, 2021
Prerequisite Knowledge:This is an intermediate-level course designed for individuals with a background in IT. We recommend that students have: 

  • Completed AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (ACF) or have prior cloud computing experience
  • Prior software development experience
  • A working knowledge of distributed systems
  • Familiarity with general networking concepts
  • A working knowledge of multi-tier architectures

Prepares students for the AWS SysOps Administrator - Associate certification exam. 

Course Outline

Cost: $1250
Prerequisite Knowledge: This is an intermediate-level course designed for individuals with a background in IT. We recommend students have:

  • Completed AWS Academy Clound Foundations (ACF) or have prior cloud computing experience
  • A working knowledge of at least one scripting language
  • Familiarity with Linux, the command line and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  • Familiarity with virtualization and distributed computing
  • An understanding of version control (e.g., Git)
  • An understanding of data storage mechanisms such as SQL

PERSONAL LAPTOP REQUIRED - AWS Academy classes are not held in computer labs. You are required to come with your own laptop every week to participate in these classes!
