For the first time in three years, the Big Science Celebration returned in person to the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) on May 7. Columbus State’s Biological & Physical Sciences department returned to represent the College for the annual event. It was organized by Allysen Todd, dean, Cathy Bill, chair, and Jeanette Ferguson, associate professor. Our slogan, Come Grow with Us, greeted visitors at the booth. Guests received Styrofoam flowerpots to take home. As the Styrofoam “grew,” visitors were introduced to the concepts of chemical change, polymer chemistry, and reaction time and temperature.

In addition to Ferguson, participants from the department included Brian Peebles, associate professor; Naava Schottenstein, instructor; Susini De Silva, instructor; Pedram Boghrat, adjunct; Rachel Alderson, ACE; and Sue Longenbaker, professor emeritus. Mike Bower, career educator in Admissions, also assisted.
