Dean Bortz, professor of Design, Construction & Trades, helped lead the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Great Lakes Region Conference Boot Camp held April 21-23 in Cincinnati. The event raised more than $1,000 for scholarship funding for current students working to become the next generation of industry professionals.

The conference attracted more than 200 industry architects, engineers, contractors, materials suppliers, and students from Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan. The conference provides continuing education sessions and insight into the future of the design-built environment.

Founded in 1948, CSI is a national not-for-profit association with more than 7,000 members. It is dedicated to improving the communication of construction information through continuous development and transformation of standards and formats and education and certification of professionals to improve project delivery processes.

CSI members work to communicate:

  • The vision of the designer effectively
  • Solutions from a material producer
  • Techniques of a constructer to create facilities meeting the objective of the owner
