Assistance for utilities available for students ahead of winter

Update | Monday, November 15, 2021

Students may be eligible for the Columbus State Community College CState Cares: Utilities Grant. It is funded by Franklin County and the U.S. Department of Treasury through the Emergency Rental Assistance program. That program assists eligible student households that cannot pay utilities due directly or indirectly to the pandemic.

This assistance is available to students renting a residential dwelling in Franklin County who have a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income, are unemployed, or have had a reduction in income related to the pandemic, and have a past utility bill.

Students who meet these qualifications should complete the CState Cares: Housing and Utilities Grant application at this link. Only completed applications will be reviewed. A completed application includes documentation or attestation of income and change of income, and a copy of a past due utility bill or statement that shows a name, account number, service address, and amount due.

Application reviews generally take five to seven days. Students will be notified of the review’s outcome, and if approved, payment will be made directly to the Utility Service Provider.

Any questions can be directed by email to emergencyfund@cscc.edu.
