Columbus State team attends Leaders Institute

A team of Columbus State administrators were selected to travel to Washington, D.C., to represent the College during the AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) October 5-7. The institute held its first class since 2019 in conjunction with the Future Presidents Institute.

President Harrison was a keynote speaker. The FLI is a three-day seminar focused on honing leadership skills. It allows participants an opportunity to talk with experienced community college leaders and network with colleagues from around the country. Key principles addressed during the conference included: 

  • Embracing the Community College Mission
  • Understanding Governance, Institutional Policy, and Legislation
  • Supporting the Student Success Agenda
  • Understanding Interpersonal Relationships, Personal Philosophy, and Management Skills
  • Managing the Foundational Aspects of the Institution: Strategic Planning, Financial Management,
  • Accreditation, and Technology
  • Using Data for Decision-Making to Improve Student Success
  • Advocating, Mobilizing, and Motivating Others to Support the Mission and Goals of the Community College
  • Cultivating Relationships across Sectors to Advance the Community College Agenda
  • Taking on the Role of Community College Spokesperson
  • Creating a Culture around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Building Leadership Strengths
