New Black Lives Matter Scholarship at Columbus State
Update | Tuesday, March 9, 2021
Although our community is still grieving the loss of much-loved Amy DeLorenzo, her light and spirit have motivated many of us to continue her legacy and fight for social justice. During Amy’s last few months of her life, she led an effort to start a Black Lives Matter Scholarship at Columbus State.
A small group of faculty within the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) Diversity and Inclusion Committee started a grassroots effort to raise funds to establish this scholarship. It raised $5,000 in one week through social media to establish the scholarship with the Columbus State Foundation.
Endowing the scholarship
The goal now is to endow the scholarship. If you are interested, please visit the
Columbus State Foundation website. Click on “Ways to Give” at the top. Then click the “online” option. The first section
is “Donation Information.” At the bottom, under “Designation,” click on the drop-down
menu. Select the fifth option, which is the “Black Lives Matter Scholarship.”
Or you may donate through a payroll deduction at this link. Scroll down to “Please direct my gift to” and check the “other” box. Fill in “Black Lives Matter Scholarship” in the space below.
Two scholarships awarded
We are grateful to Amy for leaving us this legacy and to everyone who has already
donated to this scholarship. About a dozen individuals from the African American Employee
Resource Group (AAERG) reviewed more than 600 student applications over the winter
break. The committee selected two amazing students who each received a $500 scholarship
for this semester.
