Student Employee Appreciation Week

Update | Tuesday, April 28, 2020

Career Services reports that it had a great week celebrating CState student employees. They held social media promotions, offered prizes, held raffles, hosted a Netflix Watch Party, and a first-ever virtual awards ceremony.

The 2020 Student Employment Awards, held April 17 through Microsoft Teams, was an uplifting event encapsulating the spirit of Appreciation Week. Sianiris Lopez Velazquez, Latino Small Business Development Assistant in SBDC, was recognized as the Student Employee of the Year. A Digital Design & Graphics student, Siani contributed exceptional work to the SBDC and their clients.

“Siani leads by example, is professional in the planning and execution of her work, and can be counted on to represent Columbus State and the SBDC in a manner that exemplifies our shared values of excellence and accountability.”

Geoff Bauer, CASE/New Student Programs, was named Student Employment Supervisor of the Year.

“He recognizes that [student employee] voices are more valuable and more important than they may yet realize. He wants them to use their voices. He often uses the authority he has to amplify their words and experiences.”

Congratulations to all nominated and a special thanks to everyone who participated.

  • Students also shared their experiences:“Student employment taught me that possibilities are endless and that there are many people in life who are eager to help you reach your goals!”
  • “Student employment taught me how to have a voice and be able to grow as a leader in a professional environment.”
  • “I am thankful to my supervisors Kelly Fannin & Lenore Southerland for giving me a chance. These women gave me encouraging words when I felt like giving up in my classes. I will never forget them.”
