More than 75 people – primarily students – attended the third annual American Crossroads symposium on February 28 in WD.  The theme was “Impeachment: Its Past and Prospects.” The symposium offered an opportunity for Columbus State students, faculty, and staff to consider the history of impeachment and how our current political polarization and recent impeachment reflect our history.

The program included Bob Fitrakis, Columbus State political science professor, G. Matt Adkins, Columbus State associate professor of Humanities, Michael Les Benedict, professor emeritus of history at Ohio State University, Nancy Kassop, professor of political science at the State University of New York-New Paltz, and Peter Shane, chair of law at Ohio State’s Moritz Law College. Each talked about one of four presidential impeachments, or near impeachment cases: Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump.

The Humanities Department is already planning the next East Meets West Symposium. They want to know what you would like to learn. This anonymous survey is at this link. The annual symposium considers specific aspects of cultural and social exchange between eastern and western cultures. Each session consists of scholarly presentations followed by a discussion session with the audience. For more information about the series, click here.
