First4Weeks – week-3 tips: Communicate, Celebrate, and Inspire

Proven, research-based strategies make a positive difference for students. The First4Weeks initiative is designed to leverage and expand on the great student success work we already have underway by focusing on four categories:

*Engage and Encourage
*Communicate, Celebrate, and Inspire
*Support and Collaborate

During the first four weeks of this semester, you’ll find helpful tips and links here for each category. This week’s tips can help Communicate, Celebrate, and Inspire students.

Ideas for faculty
Students are often inspired by faculty members. Professors and instructors have found that early feedback is important. Many of them strive to return graded papers quickly, especially in the early weeks.

Ideas for staff
Staff members can encourage participation in campus groups that build leadership skills, like Women’s Connection, MAN Initiative, and discipline-specific mentoring programs.
