Cybersecurity corner: Avoid tax identity theft

There are some important tips now that tax season is upon us.

·         File your taxes early. If your taxes are already filed, potential criminals can’t take advantage of your Social Security number.

·         If mailing a copy of your taxes, go to the post office rather than placing in a mailbox.

·         If filing taxes online, avoid connecting to free WiFi.

·         Look for the “https” or “padlock” in website addresses

·         The IRS will never call to threaten you. Don’t fall for an IRS imposter.
