Virtual 5K results announced

The annual Cougar 5K Challenge took a detour to the virtual world during the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the challenges of holding the 5K as an individual run or walk, the event still raised nearly $14,000 to fund book scholarships for students. Within the total raised, $4,760 came from the generosity of individual donations over and above registration fees.

By the numbers:

• Six teams
• 218 registrants
• 153 runners submitted results

A single team swept all three prize categories:
1. Largest team: Cougars Taking Care of Business – 36 people (Prize: Trophy)

2. The team that raised the most money in donations: Cougars Taking Care of Business with $1095 donated (Prize: breakfast with the president)

3. The team that had the most members submitting final times: Cougars Taking Care of Business – 24 members (Prize: gift bags)

The six teams included:
Aletha Shipley and Beth Bates: Cougars Taking Care of Business. (36 members, $1095 donations)

Sean Asbury and Jeff Dodge: Cougar Proud (30 members, $385 donations)

Curt Laird and Vincent Cocozza: Wellness Warriors (15 members, $1035 Donations)

Terrence Brooks: Spirited Sprinters (22 members, $525 donations)

Rebecca Butler and Shawn McClory: Run for the Books (22 members, $280 donations)

Brian Seely, Marcia Holleman, and Averee Fields: Cirque da Sore Legs (20 members, $220 donations)

Swag Bags: Registered participants will be contacted about swag bag pick-up.
