Apply for the Student Conduct Hearing Board

Update | Tuesday, November 17, 2020

The Office of Student Conduct is currently looking for community members including students, staff, faculty, and administrators interested in joining the Student Conduct Hearing Board (SCHB). Having a position on the SCHB provides the opportunity to educate students on the expectations of academic integrity and community standards, as documented in the Student Code of Conduct.

SCHB sessions are convened for one of two reasons:

1. When an alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct and is severe enough to warrant a potential suspension or expulsion, or;

2. When a student denies responsibility for the allegations and/or disputes the sanctions proposed by an Administrative Hearing Officer in non-suspension level situations.

Benefits of being a Hearing Board member include:

  • Fostering partnerships between faculty, staff, and students to forge professional and mentoring relationships.
  • Professional development and working in a team setting.
  • Increasing critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • The opportunity to demonstrate commitment to your community and provide a valuable service to the College.
  • A strong resume builder to showcase skills to future employers.

Things to consider when deciding to become a Hearing Board Member:

  • In order to be considered for a Board Member position, you must complete the application form through Cougar Connect. The link to the form will be provided below. (Please note the deadline for application submissions is Friday, November 27.)
  • Successful applicants must attend a required three-hour training session provided by the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Members are asked to be available to participate, on average, on 2-3 boards per semester.
  • Hearing Boards typically occur between 2-4 p.m. during the workweek.
