2020 Central Ohio Compact Summit launches Diversity, Equity and Inclusion series this Thursday

Update | Tuesday, October 13, 2020

This year’s annual Central Ohio Compact Summit will take the form of three virtual sessions focused on racial inequity and equity strategy solutions. Faculty and staff are welcome to register for any and all of the free sessions, which are being presented in collaboration among Columbus State, the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio, and The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University.

The series kicks off at 2 p.m. Thursday (October 15) with The Strategy: Exploring the Deliberate Construction of Race in the U.S.” and continues with events on October 29 and November 5. (Sign up below.)

Leaders within the Central Ohio Compact, a Columbus State-convened regional strategy initiative to drive regional post-secondary credential attainment, have discussed leveraging the collective strength of the Compact to respond to current challenges. These conversations have naturally turned to discussions about racial inequity in our society and led to this year’s theme of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Since the Compact’s first Summit in 2011, there has been substantial progress in bringing together K-12, higher education, and business and community leadership to tackle the issues of increasing student access and attainment, collaborative cross-sector engagement, and a deepened focus on more equitable outcomes for working adults, low-income and first-generation college students, and students of color. These Summits have provided an opportunity to confront hard facts and develop a shared course of action.

This year, the Compact will continue the work to build a more prosperous and equitable region by collectively focusing on a grounded understanding of the development of race in the United States, an analytical review of the current state of racial disparities within Central Ohio, and peer learning around local DEI efforts, as well as the deployment of equity implementation strategies into more regional organizations.

While there is no cost for these sessions, you will need to register on Eventbrite to attend any or all of them.
