Gearing up for spring

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is sponsoring a series of exercise seminars to make the most of your fitness routine this winter. The presenter is Dustin Iacovone, specialist in College Recreation and Wellness.
Attend at least five of these seminiars and you will earn one coin. (Any employee and spouse or domestic partner covered under the UHC plans through Columbus State must reach 8 coins under the Health Rewards program to maintain a 20% payroll contribution.)

Running Into the New Year
Wednesday, January 22 at noon in WD 1094
This seminar will use SMART(specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely) goal setting to help participants design a walking/running plan based on their schedule and goals. You will learn different resources to keep them motivated and accountable. You’ll also create and leave with their own SMART plan. (RSVP by January 21)
Running & Walking 101: The Basics
Tuesday, January 28 at noon in WD 352
This one-hour seminar will cover the basics of beginning a walking/running program. The seminar will provide information regarding where to find walking/running programs, common mistakes of beginning runners/walkers, resources for finding races, nutrition, stretching, and essential equipment, apps, and technology to make your walk/run an enjoyable experience. (RSVP by January 28 at 10 a.m.)
Couch to 5k
Tuesday, February 11 at noon in WD 352
This one-hour seminar will take an in-depth look at the couch to 5k plan, and how to utilize this plan for the Columbus State Cougar Challenge 5k. Participants will receive a $5 off registration code for attending the seminar. (RSVP by February 11 at 10 a.m.)
The Aches and Pains of Walking & Running- Exercises and Stretches to Relieve Your
Aching Body
**NEW DATE: Wednesday, February 19 at noon in WD 1094 (This was originally scheduled for March 3.)
In this one-hour seminar participants will learn common injuries associated with running and walking, and how to prevent/reduce pain in these areas. Participants will learn exercises to stretch and strengthen common injuries associated with running and exercising. (RSVP by February 18)
Getting Off on the Right Foot: Finding the Right Shoe for You
**NEW DATE: Tuesday, March 3 at noon in WD 352 (This was originally scheduled for February 19 in a different room.)
Lisa Dillahunt from Columbus Running Company will discuss the different types of walking/running shoes. Attendees can try on a variety of shoes, and Lisa will assist in finding the right shoe for you. (RSVP by March 2)
Couch to 5k
Wednesday, March 18 at noon in WD 1094
This one-hour seminar will take in-depth look at the couch to 5k plan and how to utilize this plan for the Columbus State Cougar Challenge 5k. Participants will receive a $5 off registration code for attending the seminar. (RSVP by March 17)
