Columbus State is primary back-up site for Secretary of State

Update | Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Weeks before the mid-term elections in Ohio last year, Columbus State was stepping up to provide alternative space for the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State to ensure business continuity on Election Day. To guarantee the election process will be carried out, the Secretary needed a location nearby should their headquarters lose electricity or be evacuated for any reason, or should an unexpected event occur.

While the College site was not used for that purpose last year, the process and pre-planning for such an event went smoothly. Once again, the staff of Secretary of State Frank LaRose has returned to prepare for Election Day next week. In fact, Columbus State has now been deemed the primary back-up site for elections for the Secretary of State’s office.

In the event the College is used on Election Day, or that night, most of the Secretary’s staff would converge in Student Central to use the computer stations available in that area. Media representatives will meet in the Nestor Hall west lounge. Election Day this year will be on Tuesday, November 5.
