ESL Placement Testing

Columbus State Community College offers two types of English as a Second Language (ESL) programs:  a non-credit, Basic English program and an academic credit, ESL program.

If you are interested in non-credit, basic English as a second language courses, please contact the CSCC Language Institute for testing and course information.  The Language Institute is located in the Center for Workforce Development (WD), 315 Cleveland Avenue, Room 1090.  Basic English courses are for students who do not have a foundation of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.

If you interested in pursuing an academic credit program and already have a foundation of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English, you will need to complete the COMPASS/ESL placement test.  If English is not your first language, your placement test will include a timed writing sample and computerized reading and grammar/usage components.  Click here for test location, hours, and additional information.

All new Columbus State Community College students who do not have transfer credit in college-level English and math are required to take a placement test in before scheduling classes.
