Costs for F1 Students

International student (F1 visa) applicants  to colleges in the United States must show that they have sufficient funds for both academic and living expenses while in the U.S.  Colleges may not issue an I-20 (the document needed to obtain a student visa) unless students provide proof that they can pay for school and living expenses. Financial support may be provided by  persons or organizations in your home country, persons or organizations in the U.S. or a combination of these.

Tuition must be paid in full about one week before the start of each quarter.  Columbus State Community College does not generally offer scholarships to international students.   There are a limited number of scholarships for which students may compete after they are on campus.  F1 students are generally not permitted to work off campus.  Campus employment may be available, but cannot be guaranteed.  Campus employment cannot be counted on to cover estimated expenses.

Academic year 2006-2007 estimated expenses for F1 visa students at CSCC are:

Please note that although students on F1 visas must take a minimum of 12 credit hours per quarter, it is frequently necessary to take more than 12 in order to complete all the classes required for your degree.  Many classes are five credit hours.  Thus, the actual tuition for a particular quarter could be more than the above amount.

If room and board will be provided by a sponsor in the U.S. (for example, a relative or friend), this can account for $10,720 of the student’s expenses.  The sponsor must write a letter including his/her name, address and phone number and a statement that he/she will provide the student’s room and board.  There can be no expectation or requirement that the student work for the sponsor in exchange for room and board.

Health insurance

Health care is very expensive in the United States and is the responsibility of the individual.  CSCC strongly encourages international students to purchase health insurance to cover health care expenses, especially for unexpected illnesses or emergencies.  Please click here to see information on health insurance plans from which to choose.  Additionally, it is recommended that you have medical care coverage while en route to CSCC.
