Observances

Update | Tuesday, April 16, 2024

Earth Day, Pesach (Passover), Autism Acceptance Month, National Minority Health Month, and Celebrate Diversity Month are all being observed.

Earth Day (April 22): Celebrate Earth Day early by attending the Sustainability Fair today in the Columbus Campus Courtyard, joining Columbus State’s Sustainability Club or learning how you can support environmental justice

Pesach (Passover) (Sundown April 22-Sundown April 30): Pesach, or Passover, is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the Israelite’s journey out of enslavement in Egypt and encourages the pursuit of justice. Some Jewish people observe special dietary rules during the eight days of Pesach, including not eating foods containing yeast.

Autism Acceptance Month (April): Understanding autism helps us be better teachers, coworkers, and humans. Learn how autism can impact the way people think, understand the world, move, communicate, and socialize in this e-book resource titled "Welcome to the Autistic Community. "

National Minority Health Month (April): Thank you to Senior Career Counselor Taylor Lowry who faciliated last week’s forum on healthcare advocacy. Our guest speakers from the African American Male Wellness Agency, Clínica Latina, and Equitas Health gave a lot of very helpful advice about how to make sure you are served well by your healthcare providers.

Celebrate Diversity Month (April): A tip from the Central Ohio Diversity Consortium about how to value and sustain diversity in your work environment: Move away from a culture of overworking towards one that prioritizes self-care and community care. Recognizing the importance of mental health, work-life balance, and collective support systems can help create a culture that values the holistic well-being of its members, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
