Robot Dinosaur artGene Strickland, Art, Media & Design professor and coordinator of Digital Design & Graphics, and Photography, had his digital art/illustration piece, “Robot Dinosaur,” accepted into the 2023 Fine Arts Exhibition of the Ohio State Fair.

It was printed on a large canvas at 2’x3’. This recognition is a testament to Gene's talent and creativity. Strickland completed his MFA in Visual Arts from the Columbus College of Art & Design in 2021. His MFA (a terminal degree in his field) focused on multiple media, including digital painting/illustration, digital photography, and life-size, traditional charcoal drawing. The Ohio State Fair showcases a diverse range of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and mixed media works to celebrate the talent and artistic vision of the Buckeye State.

Strickland said, “In today's job market, digital art and illustration has become an indispensable component and a vital skill set for graphic designers and photographers in a commercial setting. Beyond self-expression, proficiency in digital art and illustration tools and techniques are now a requirement to stay competitive in an industry that heavily relies on digital platforms to communicate the ideas of their clients, making it essential for students and professionals to adapt to the ever-evolving digital landscape of visual communication.”
