Admission Procedure to Associate Degree Nursing Program (RN) for
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)

All applicants to Nursing must complete the application
procedure for admission to Columbus State Community College. Apply on line
at
https://secure.cscc.edu/application/default.asp or contact the Admission
Office (287-2669) to initiate the process.All LPN applicants to the Nursing program at Columbus State Community
College must complete the following before applying to the nursing program:
- Applicants must be licensed in Ohio as LPNs

Apply online
to CSCC, or contact the admissions office at 287-2669 to initiate
the application process.
- Have transcripts from previous colleges or schools
sent to Columbus State Community College.
- Have a GPA of 2.6 or higher.
- Take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) and achieve 50
percent in reading and 64 percent in math.
- Admisson requirements and nursing concurrent courses
must be completed prior to applying to the nursing program.
- After all the above have been completed, fill out the
online application to nursing. Application will open on May 12, 2008, at
9 a.m.
- A limited number of applications will be accepted.
The application site will shut off after we have reached the maximum
number of applicants.
Only applications that are completely filled
out will be processed. The admissions committee will then review the
completed application for acceptance into the program. Offers of admission
will be determined by available space in the nursing program.
LPNs will continue to work with their academic advisor in
Advising and Counseling located in
Aquinas Hall 116 (287-2668) until they are admitted to the Nursing Program.
An LPN may enter the nursing program by one of two routes:
- Traditional-available to all LPN’s
- Online-available only to LPN’s with a bachelor’s
degree
Admission Criteria:
Admission criteria to the Nursing program are available at
www.cscc.edu/nursing/nadmission.htm.
LPNs may elect to take all of the NURS courses in the curriculum plan
(traditional track or on-line track) or they may apply for Prior Learning
Assessment (PLA) with the possibility of earning “N” credit for some of the
NURS courses. Applicants must have credit on their Columbus State Community
College transcript for the support courses in the first three quarters of
the program to be eligible for prior learning assessment. The support
courses include:
ENGL 101 (Beginning Composition) or ENGL 111 (English Composition)
BIO 261 (Human Anatomy) with a “C” or better
BIO 262 (Human Physiology) with a “C” or better
PSY 240 (Human Growth and Development Through the Life Span)
with a “C” or better
BIO 263 (Human Pathophysiology) with a “C” or better
LPNs are eligible to apply for “N” credit for the NURS courses in the first
three quarters of the curriculum plan or to enroll in some of the NURS
course(s) and to apply for “N” credit for others. The LPN and the Nursing
admission advisor will determine which courses the LPN will apply for “N”
credit and which courses will be taken for credit.
Based on the plan determined with the Nursing admission advisor, “N” credit
may be granted for the following courses with documentation of a current
license for practical nursing in the state of Ohio, and with successful
completion of NURS 109 (Student Transition):
NURS 110 (Introduction to Nursing)
NURS 100 (Health Assessment in Nursing)
NURS 111 (Health Promotion of Women and Families)
NURS 112 (Introduction to Nursing Concepts of Health Maintenance and
Restoration) (Note: new graduates and LPNs without recent
experience must take this course)
NURS 132 (Concepts of Pharmacology I)
NURS 133 (Concepts of Pharmacology II)
NURS 123 (Nursing Skills I)
LPNs will be offered admission to Nursing as space is available.
An LPN will enroll in the sequence of NURS courses at the next opportunity
after being offered admission to Nursing. Those who accept admission and do
not enroll are considered Out-of-Sequence. No student may remain
Out-of-Sequence for more than eight (8) consecutive quarters. Advisement for
this situation should be sought from the advisor assigned in the Nursing
Department.

Licensure Information:
The Ohio Board of Nursing Felony Policy: Section 4723.28 of the Ohio Revised
Code states that the Board may deny a convicted felon a license or the
privilege of sitting for the licensure examination. An applicant with a
history of felony conviction is responsible for informing the Chairperson of
Nursing and Related Services of this history.
The Ohio Board of Nursing Licensure Application Requirement: As of June
2004, the Ohio Board of Nursing requires all applicants for licensure to
identify existing psychiatric conditions(s) and/or illegal use of chemical
substances or controlled substances. Please check with the Board of Nursing

PROWORA, a new federal law known as the “Personal Responsibility Act” limits
licensure to U.S. citizens and other qualified applicants. The State Board
of Nursing is required to keep assurance of citizenship on record with
applications for licensure. The nursing program will provide candidates with
the form along with the licensure application.
