What are my career options?  Are there careers in this region?  How much will I make?

Surgical Technologist are employed by Hospitals, Surgery Centers, and in Surgeons offices, as Private Surgical Tech's.

The field of surgical technology is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations, jobs will increase by 15% from now to 2024.

What general education courses are recommended?

Prerequisite courses for any general course listed on the plan of study is recommended.

Completing all general and basic courses listed in the first four semesters is recommended.  Do not complete courses listed in the 5th semester early.

What elective courses are recommended?

The recommended Sociology elective is SOC 2202 Social Problems.

What are the critical courses that students need to complete successfully in order to be successful in the program?

Our program only provides the courses that are required by our accrediting body the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and no other courses.

What is the mathematics requirement ("the right math") for the program of study?

STAT 1350 Elementary Statistics is recommended.

What courses should I take and when?

I recommended completing as many general and basic courses from the first four semesters prior to entering the program.

Are there selective admissions requirements for the program? If so, what are they and how can I best prepare for admission?

Yes, admissions is selective for the Surgical Technology Program. You must attend a mandatory information session, 2.7 GPA, the ability to meet all mental and physical requirements of the job as listed in the Essentials for the program.

Will I have opportunities to do applied/ work-based learning or service learning?

Yes, there is a clinical component to the program it requires you to perform a minimum of 120 surgical procedures prior to earning your degree.

How long will it take to complete the program?  Full-time?  Part-time?

It will take 5 semesters to complete the program, the semesters are sequential and include summer semester. We do not offer a part-time option at this time.
