Introduction

The Summer Program Abroad in Greece is designed to give students, teaching professionals, or just life-long learners the opportunity to visit the actual historic sites that have shaped the course of Western Civilization.   On site lectures and guided tours are led by by Columbus State professors with years of experience.
Readings for the course are coordinated with the itinerary to enhance the learning experience. Participants will discuss the philosophy of Plato on the site of the Academy, read Homer at the citadel of Mycenae, the seat of Agamemnon's power, examine the nature of Greek myths in Olympia, and explore Greek religion on the Acropolis and in the ancient sanctuaries of Delphi and Delos. Schedule permitting,  participants may also attend a live performance of Greek tragedy in the ancient theater in Epidaurus. Additionally, participants will get a first hand look at the science of archaeology at working excavation sites and visit various museums. Any one may participate. While the trip is offered as part of a course on ancient Greek civilization, participants need not enroll in the course. Only students seeking college credit must enroll in the course. teaching professions may apply for CEUs without paying for college credit. See the detailed itinerary below.
